Advanced Sailing and Racing Training in Mumbai Harbour, Gateway of India
The Advanced Sailing and Racing Course is ideal for students who have completed the Basic Learn to Sail Course or for those who already know the basics of sailing. This course will improve your boat handling skills and confidence. You will be trained to handle the spinnaker, which is used while racing to sail faster on downwind. By the end of this course you will have gained the knowledge and skills required to sail the boat faster and more efficiently. You will also get a chance to participate in 2 club races as a crew, where you will learn the fundamentals of racing and sailing round the course. The club races are conducted jointly by the Royal Bombay Yacht Club, Bombay Sailing Association and Colaba Sailing Club.
Outline Of What You Will Learn
- Fine tune your boat handling skills and seamanship
- Learn how to use a spinnaker
- Practical racing – Know how a sailing race is conducted and participate in two of them as a crew and racing tactics
- Understanding weather changes, detecting wind direction changes and how to make use of them
- Use of a compass, GPS and other instruments whilst sailing
- Sail and boat tuning
- Learn to use an out-board motor
Course duration: 10 sailing sessions of 90 minutes each, spread over a period of 2 months or less (including participation in 2 club level races)
Boat: Students will be trained on the Seabird class sailboat
Venue: Gateway of India, Colaba
No of students per session: Minimum 1 – Maximum 3
Class dates and timings: Classes are conducted on all days of the week. The wind conditions are favourable for sailing from 7:00 am till 10:00 am (morning session) and from 2:00 pm till 6:30 pm (afternoon / evening session). Students can schedule the date and timings for their classes accordingly.
(Please note that in the morning session, you cannot begin your class after 9:00 am; and in the afternoon / evening session, you cannot begin your class after 5:30 pm)
Fees: Rs. 30,000 per student (Rs. 25,000 for students who have taken the Basic Learn To Sail Course from us)
Things To Know
- To take this course, students must have completed the Basic Learn to Sail Course or must know the basics of sailing
- Only students of age 15 years and above are eligible to apply
- Knowing how to swim is NOT mandatory to take this course
- Buoyancy aid will be provided for safety
- Class date and timings must be booked atleast 2 days in advance
